Guided walking tour through the Apulian baroque art, a beautiful and refined town: 

The city gate called Porta Napoli, the squares of Piazza Duomo and Piazza Sant’Oronzo, the Church of Santa Croce and lots of noble palaces and churches of the historical center, showing wonderful balconies, volutes and grotesque figures carved in the malleable and luminous straw-yellow Lecce stone. 

The beauty of the decorations makes the facades look like embroidery. 

Lecce’s baroque boasts artistic masterpieces thanks to the dedication of the masters of the Apulian Baroque school between 1500 and 1700. Their presence transformed Lecce into a cultural and artistic centre that still retains all its beauty today. 

Every detail of the facades, of the noble palaces with their courtyards and gardens, of the smaller churches, of the coats of arms, has its own characteristics and is worth a photo, even on the majestic entrance doors of some noble palaces there is the hand shaped door knocker made of sculpted bronze, an image that takes us back in time, but at the same time it looks practical, it makes you want to knock. 

There are also important archaeological remains dating back to Roman times, on the central Sant’Oronzo square, in the open air, showing the origins of the city of Lecce, the Amphitheatre. In the afternoon, the entire historic centre of Lecce lights up the same color as the stone, straw yellow, and gives us the most intense memory of one of the most beautiful cities in Puglia.
