TRULLI HOUSES IN ALBEROBELLO
The Trulli of Alberobello, a guided tour to discover the picturesque houses that characterize the heart of the Apulian countryside.
Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, capital of the Trulli, an authentic village in the traditions, the most interesting and typical walk you can do in Apulia.
If we had to count how many guided tours we have done so far, the highest number would be Alberobello and its Trulli.
Walking tour with one of our guides through the historical districts, Aia Piccola, the monumental area of the historical centre of Alberobello, and the Monti district with its colourful shops to admire and see the Trulli of Alberobello.
We will give you information to better understand the construction and its functions. Born from a peasant idea around 1600, thanks to the skills and ingenuity of the inhabitants of the villages themselves, in need of a house, were built in dry stone, without mortar, one on top of the other with a technique that many define as ingenious.
Over the centuries, they have become patronal houses, much larger with more rooms inside, they also have kitchen and bathroom, but the stone and the conical shape are still there and from the UNESCO declaration it is no longer possible to eliminate the oldest ones.
Today it is defined as spontaneous, beautiful and characteristic architecture, representing the peasant civilization in the heart of the Apulian countryside. The area around Alberobello is called Valle dei Trulli, because of the trullo houses scattered in the countryside and in the towns.
During the walk among the Trulli of Alberobello, we will taste some local products.
