Lucera: guided tour of Amphitheatre, church and fortress
Lucera is a town in the province of Foggia, called the key to Puglia.
It’s an open-air discovery, very rich in history, and for the variety of styles presented by its monuments.
We visit the Roman Amphitheatre, which is the most important Roman evidence in Apulia; the Swabian-Angevin fortress, immense in size, today the towers are accessible and, from the top of the hill, you have a stunning view!
Lucera is located on three hills, and on one of them, Colle Albano, the fortress was built. The Gothic-style cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, large and very well decorated inside, overlooks the elegant Piazza del Duomo. And a stroll through the 17th- and 18th-century Baroque palaces completes the historic centre, one of the most important in Puglia. Letting go is what you need to do in Lucera because of all this variety, a mix of cultures and styles.
A walking tour accessible to all, we recommend staying a whole day in Lucera because you will feel like it after visiting.
