Monte Sant’Angelo: guided walking tour
The village of Monte Sant’Angelo is worth a visit.
It is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. When you get to Monte Sant’Angelo, what strikes you is the view: at 840 meters a.s.l. it is easy to see cows, goats and horses grazing freely on the mountainside, with the deep blue Adriatic Sea and the Gulf of Manfredonia on the horizon.
And the old village, with the white houses all in a row in the Rione Junno, which penetrate each other through the stairways and small squares, giving a sense of uniformity to the entire village. Walking through the village, one immediately notices the almost complete absence of cars, a myriad of small shops selling souvenirs and local handicrafts and the specialties of the local Gargano cuisine.
And, dulcis in fundo, you can see the bell tower that towers at the top of the village and the Sanctuary of the Archangel St Michael, which we recommend you to visit with one of our local guides because it is full of history and art.
The Walking Tour of Monte Sant’Angelo is a walk through the old district called Rione Junno with a visit to the Basilica of the Archangel St Michael.
